Understanding Chakras

Chakras are centers of spiritual power and energy in the body. They are the circular vortexes that are placed in seven different points of the spinal column and all the seven chakras are connected to various organs and glands.

These chakras are responsible for distributing life energy, ‘Prana’ and are associated with different qualities of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

The health of a chakra is governed by our beliefs about ourselves in the particular area of life that the chakra is related to.

1. Muladhara / Root Chakra:

Situated at the base of the spine, at the tailbone in the back & pubic bone in the front. Associated with grounding, center of manifestation. To achieve success in business/work, home & finance – material world.

When blocked: fear, anxiousness, frustration, and insecurity.

Color: Red, Element: Earth.

2. Swadishtana / Sacral Chakra:

Situated two inches below the navel. Responsible for creativity, intuition, self-worth, and friendliness.

When blocked: Self-confidence and creativity disturbed.

Color: Orange, Element: Water.

3. Manipuraka / Solar Plexus Chakra:

Situated at the navel area. Responsible for astral influence, astral travel & psychic development.

When blocked: lack of confidence, worrying about other people’s opinion, depression, lack of control over life.

Color: Yellow, Element: Fire.

4. Anahata / Heart Chakra:

Situated at the central point of the spine near the heart. Connects body with mind & soul.

Responsible for love, compassion, trust, forgiveness & spirituality.

When blocked: afraid of getting hurt, letting go, unworthy of love, trust & forgiveness.

Color: Green, Element: Air.

5. Visudha / Throat Chakra:

Situated at the throat. Responsible for communication, expression of creativity like thoughts, writing & speech.

Center for decision-making, personal authority, transformation & healing.

When blocked: Weak & timid, can’t express.

Color: Blue, Element: Space.

6. Ajna / Brow Chakra:

Situated at the center of the forehead. Responsible for psychic ability, intuition, inner vision, wisdom, intelligence & divine understanding. Center for guidance to tune the higher self.

When blocked: Egoistic, non-assertive, afraid of success.

Color: Indigo, Element: Light & inner sound vibrations.

7. Sahasrara / Crown Chakra:

Situated at the crown of the head. Center for spirituality, enlightenment & divine energy. Channels the inward flow of wisdom & connecting link to divine consciousness.

Responsible for clarity, intuition, clairvoyance / Extra sensory perception (ESP).

When blocked: frustration, lack of joy & depression.

Color: Purple, Element: Supreme.
